Hardware News For The Trade
Dr. Bill Rogers, Reporting
The developments in the 2011 hardware sector and power tool arena continues to be quite exciting.  One of common threads in both hardware and power tools is the creation of smaller yet more powerful and effective implements. Additionally, the devices being manufactured these days are getting more energy-efficient and ergonomically correct.  In other words, they are becoming safer to use and less of a nuisance to the environment.  Moreover, the power tools industry nowadays is also churning out quieter instruments, enabling people to work on projects without bothering other people in the surroundings.  Aside from all that, the female demographic is currently being given more attention.  All in all, the hardware industry is one highly active field and great things can be anticipated from it.

Over the past 10 years, Welcome Home has been blazing a trail for the trade to share with buyers and retailers, the tools and housewares that make the consumer's life easier and more fulfilling.  Tools, Hardware and Household time and labor savers have been around for centuries, however, it wasn't until the post-civil war period that the majority of useful tools and housewares were invented.  The reason was that most people no longer had servants and housewives working alone in the house needed culinary help, cleaning help and other assistance around the house.

John Mason patented the screw neck bottle or the "Mason Jar" on November 30, 1858.   The first patent that can claim to be for an electric mixer was issued on November 17, 1885 to Rufus M. Eastman but Lillian Moller Gilbreth (1878-1972), the mother of 12 children, also patented an electric food mixer. The Scott Paper Company was founded in Philadelphia by Irvin and Clarence Scott in 1879.  The nineteenth-century created numerous kitchen use inventions: toasters, potato mashers, apple/potato peelers, food choppers and sausage stuffers were all invented.  Saran polyvinylidene chloride, known as Saran Wrap have been wrapping products for more than 50 years.  The single blade window cleaning squeegee was invented by Ettore Sceccone in 1936.  The waffle iron was patented on August 24, 1869, invented by Cornelius Swarthout of Troy, New York. The list is much longer than we have space to devote to it.  Fast forward to the 21st Century . . .
